How B Corp Is Raising the Bar for UK Hairdressing

March is B Corp Month: a moment when purpose-led businesses around the world come together to celebrate what it means to use business as a force for good. Every March, the B Corp community shines a light on the work happening behind the scenes, the policies, the proof, the progress, and the accountability that sits behind that little “B” logo.

This year’s B Lab UK campaign theme is “Behind this simple symbol is a powerful signal.” And we couldn’t agree more.

Because in a world where sustainability claims are everywhere, a trusted mark matters. The B Corp logo isn’t a trend or a vibe: it’s a signal that a business has been verified against high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.

What being a B Corp means for Green Salon Collective

Green Salon Collective exists to raise the standard of the hair and beauty industry by helping salons become more ethical and sustainable environments: for the salon, for stylists, and for guests.

Our work is practical and measurable: we help salons recycle, compost and recover hard-to-handle waste streams from everyday services - the stuff that typically ends up in landfill.

And we’re proud to be a Certified B Corporation because it embeds that mission into how we operate, make decisions, partner, and grow.

Why B Corp Month matters to the salon industry

Hair and beauty is built on transformation, but the next transformation needs to be bigger than a new shade or a fresh cut. It needs to be about how the industry runs, what it wastes, who it impacts, and what it stands for.

B Corp Month is a brilliant opportunity to:

  • Call time on greenwashing by pointing clients and professionals towards credible, verified standards.
  • Celebrate progress (however imperfect) and share what’s working.
  • Invite more salons into the movement, because the impact of thousands of small decisions across the UK and Ireland is enormous when we act together.

As B Corp Month puts purpose-led business firmly in the spotlight this March, we’re also encouraging the professional hairdressing industry to recognise the B Corp logo as a meaningful marker of integrity and accountability, not just a marketing badge.

The “simple symbol” on your shelf can tell a bigger story

When your clients see the B Corp logo, it’s a shortcut to a deeper conversation:

  • How are workers treated?
  • How transparent is the supply chain?
  • Is the business measuring and improving its environmental footprint?
  • Is it accountable beyond profit?

That’s why this year’s theme lands so strongly: the symbol is simple, but what it represents is anything but.

For salons, that story can show up in the products you stock, the waste you divert, the partners you choose, and the way you run your workplace day-to-day.

Real-world impact: turning waste into wins

Sustainability shouldn’t feel like an expensive add-on, it should feel like a smart, modern business. Many Green Salon Collective member salons choose to charge an optional £1 Green Fee, which (for an average-sized salon) can generate over £1,500 a year to reinvest into sustainable upgrades and initiatives.

And impact isn’t just operational. Since 2020, we’ve donated over £50k to charities, organisations and good causes.

The point is: doing better can be practical, visible, and community-powered, not perfect, not performative, and definitely not “all or nothing”.

How to take part in B Corp Month 2026 (salon edition)

If you’re a salon owner, manager, educator or freelancer, here are a few ways to join in this March:

1) Make the B Corp logo part of your client conversations
Add a small sign at reception, include a line in your consultation scripts, or share a quick explainer on socials about what B Corp certification signals (and why it matters), and how you incorporate it into your business choices.

2) Audit your “everyday” choices
Look at the things you reorder without thinking: colour, styling products, packaging, cleaning supplies, and even your coffee. Where can you switch to verified, values-led suppliers?

3) Treat waste as a design problem, not a bin problem
The most sustainable salon isn’t the one with the prettiest recycling stickers, it’s the one that has a system staff can actually follow during a busy Saturday. If you’re not already diverting salon waste from landfill, this month is a great time to start.

4) Celebrate your progress publicly (and honestly)
Clients don’t need perfection, they need honesty and momentum. Share what you’ve improved, what you’re working on, and what you still want to fix.

5) Collaborate with like-minded partners
We love teaming up with brands that share our values, including B Corps within the industry ecosystem. For example, we’ve highlighted shared values and B Corp certification with partners like Organic Colour Systems.

A final word from us

B Corp Month is a celebration, but it’s also a reminder: this is ongoing work. The logo is a signal and behind it is a commitment to keep improving, keep measuring, and keep showing up.

So whether you’re a salon already doing the hard graft, or you’re just starting to figure out what “sustainable” really looks like in practice, we’re with you.

This March, let’s make the hair and beauty industry one that feels as good on the inside as it looks on the outside.

Happy B Corp Month 💚
